Europe: A backpackers delight

The attraction of Europe as a tourist destination lies in
its beautiful scenery and rich history. There is so much to
see and so much to do in Europe. You will understand the
Europe experience only after you've been through it, for no
one can do justice in trying to describe the finer details
of the food, drink, sites, or scenery that is so typically
European. And one of the most inexpensive and fulfilling
ways to enjoy Europe is to backpack through it.

Backpacking through Europe is becoming quite a fashion,
especially for young students from Europe, North America and
Australia. They are enjoying the opportunity to see the
sites and spend some time on this continent. Most of these
places welcome youth and there are many places to stay. In
the larger cities most of the people speak English, and are
generally friendly and willing to help. If you know a little
bit of the language in one or more of the countries you are
staying in, you must try to speak that language; Europeans
appreciate it.

When you decide to see Europe with your feet, you must carry
some essentials with you. The first and most important is a
sturdy and comfortable pair of hiking shoes and a backpack.
As for clothes, they should be the minimum three or four
sets at the most.

However, among the essentials are woolen
socks that will help wick the sweat away from your feet and
prevent the unpleasantness associated with 'swamp foot.'
Some foodstuffs and cooking gear is helpful. Plus, you may
carry a small tent if you plan to sleep out of doors some
nights. Take help from travel guides to plan out what you
would like to do. Also don't forget to take a good map; you
will need it more often than not. Most importantly, you
should have plenty of water.

One of the best things you can do when backpacking through
Europe is plan a route with ample youth hostels. Youth
hostels are European traditions. They allow young people to
stay at very low rates. If you have a special card, you
can receive discounts for staying at many hostels. This is
very helpful, as you will stay quite a bit on your journey
through Europe. You will also meet fellow travelers and
enjoy camaraderie. Many of your new friends can give you
good advice for the remainder of your travels.
